About The Goa Cancer Society
The Goa Cancer Society (GCS) is an independent charity and a voluntary non-profit organization formed in 1968. This organization is dedicated to service, education, early detection and treatment towards the fight against cancer in Goa as well as fulfilling the commitments in the worldwide fight against cancer.
This Society started Goa’s first Cancer Hospital and the first Cobalt
Unit in 1977. After 1989 it became difficult to run the hospital without
any help from State Govt. and cash flow from public donations. The Goa
Cancer Society from 1989-2011 concentrated on cancer research and cancer
awareness programs for students and general public in the state. In the
year 1992, the Society went into collaboration with the Manipal Health
Systems by entering into a long term lease.
Presently the Society organizes and undertakes various initiatives to support medical activities related to cancer.
